The founding legend of Maillezais is based on a very old hunting accident. A wild boar was the object of the chase and the prince who pursued him was gravely wounded upon the take. Emma of Aquitaine prayed for the recovery of her friend (and...?). He did recover, and she ordered the foundation of this monastery.
