Eleanor was the richest duchess of her day and she married the richest prince -- the soon-to-be king of France, Louis VII the Young. (Louis le Jeune). They went on the second crusade together. Louis loved praying, building cathedrals (Notre Dame, for example), and making war. AliƩnor was the granddaughter of William IX of Aquitaine -- the world's first rock star ('troubadour' in medieval terms). She loved music, literature, and making love. They had a rocky marriage, and her vassal in Talmont payed part of the price. When he was rumored to have thoughts of kidnapping Louis for ransom, Louis thought not a second and came here with is fullest rage. He burned everything that would burn here. These red stones are a mark of the rage of Louis VII, king of France, but not Duke of Aquitaine...
