Charette was the greatest Vendée general. He led a grand movement of peasants and nobles who resisted the French Revolution. In this part of France, order and generosity was long settled between lord and peasant. When the other peasants of France rose up against King Louis XVI and Queen Marie-Antoinette, the peasants here rose up in their defense. This is the pistol that Charette used in his efforts to to defend the family of the king and the queen.
