And here General Rochambeau of the French army accompanies George Washington at the surrender of British forces at Yorktown -- some place way across the sea. Cornwallis actually refused to speak to Washington and sent an emissary to surrender his sword to Rochambeau. Rochambeau refused the sword and pointed instead to Washington. In a gest of justified indignation, Washington also refused the sword and has his own second in command take it.
