This is Marie-Antoinette with her children, the famous portrait by Elizabeth Louise Vigier-Lebrun. Note the empty crib. Marie has just lost a daughter. Her son the Dauphin would soon die, and the baby here would be captured by the Revolutionaries and held in squalid condtions until he died in 1795. This would outrage those of Vendée almost as much as the death of the queen. The oldest daughter is the only one to survive the Revolution.
