The tolerence of Henri IV opened an era of prosperity and cooperation the world had never known before. France became the world's foremost power -- economic, military, and above all cultural. The Sun King, Louis XIV, would be the beneficiary. He would also revoke the Edict of Nantes in the name of one Catholic religion. Protestants would flee or be persecuted. The economy would turn to ruin. The culture would turn toward ideas: Voltaire, Rousseau, Diderot would think this nation toward a new order. The Revolution would follow.
