Henry IV is hero of truth and justice, too. In 1598 he signed the Edict of Nantes, which gave freedom of religion to France's protestant minority. He had been protestant before converting in order to take the crown. The unity and prosperity he brought to France made it the richest country in the world in the 17th century. Ironically his grandson, Louis XIV, would use that wealth to build Versailles. He would also revoke the Edict and send many of the protestants into exile.
