Louis XV never saw the completion of his beloved church. Nor did his grandson who succeeded him. Louis XVI and queen Marie-Antoinette would go to the guillotine in 1793. This statue and the tomb behind it need some explaining. Voltaire is not the type you'd expect to find buried in a catholic church. He, like many intellectuals of his day, was a deist.
