As Dr. Valérie and I prepare to leave for Paris, we take one last look over the bay of Les Sables.  Here's the Prieuré Saint-Nocolas, an old monastery that also played the role of fortress through many, many centuries of wars.  It was one of the German watch posts when the allied invasion was in the works.  We'll have more about the real D-Day next week when we visit the home town some famous Vendéens who played major roles in both world wars (Georges Clemenceau and General de Lattre de Tassigny).
