Where the Lion Passed His Winter

A few minutes of our visit bring us to the depths of Fontevraud.  At the Revolution, the Republic confiscated the properties of the Church.  Fontevraud had a lot of space, and a lot of walls.  It became a prison, one of the harshest in all of Europe.  Some say that those locked up here begged for mercy by asking for time on Devil's Island.  Here is the heart of the darkest keeps where the cruelest of criminals were taught their lesson.
