These basins are largely abandoned now, and replaced by industrial production that makes these methods far too expensive for normal commercial exploitation. Even in the past the "sauniers" here worked the marshes only part time, making ends meet while they also fished, farmed, or labored in the lands, marshes or seas nearby. |
