Here Greta and Jessie seem fully conscious of their role as "enforcers" of feudal law in these realms. The only question is whether their king Richard the Lion-Hearted, right ruler over this castle, will impose French or English law over the land. Given that Richard, indeed King of England, spent much of his time on this side of the Channel and in this very castle, my guess is the that he will rule in his native language and land -- he spoke French, like his mother Eleanor of Aquitaine, and he ruled with the authority given him by his mother and the heritage of his ancestor William the Conqueror. |
