The peasants here use the implements of their farm as weapons. They are amazingly successful, and the government finally takes the fatal decision. The rebels will perish along with all who support them. The infamous general Turreau is sent to burn and to kill as wide a path as possible through all of Vendée. Here in Les Lucs he kills nearly 600 of 1000 villagers -- men, women, and children.
