The Isle of Noirmoutier

I have no way to measure this size of this wind turbine, but it and its many sisters here are really, really big!  It was in the middle ages that people in these parts first used the wind to power mills that turned wheat into flour.  Until then only places near rivers could afford to produce enough bread to feed a stable population.  The windmill changed the face of Europe.  Many hope today that the energy from the wind may do the same for the planet.
