Dagobert was the last powerful leader of the Merovingian dynasty. His
children would fail to stop the progress northward of that other great
religion, Islam. Unable to organize a successful campaign against the
Muslim armies advancing through France, the last Merovingians turned the task
over to Charles Martel who won a decisive victory near Poitiers in the 732 AD.
Christian Europe was saved and soon Charles Martel's grandson Charlemagne
would rule the entire Christian world.
