a republican stronghold

In Chinon, la Rue Haute (literally High Street), is famous for more than its shops and restaurants.  It is the street taken by Joan in 1429 when she first entered town to seek out her future king.  Since our second guide has also spotted the Joan of Arc among us, Shannon accepts to stand upon the stone which Joan, heavy with armor, used to dismount from her horse as the townspeople marveled at this woman warrior.  Lucie has consented to play the valiant and faithful squire.
