Lest we forget . . .

This first buildings on this site go back to the time of the Hundred Years War.  The original castle and buildings were largely destroyed in the Religious Wars of the 1500's.  The castle we visit today dates largely from the 17th century, and it reflects the rude conditions of those turbulent days.

One feature of the buildings here is the concentration of castle and farm buildings in one very compact area.  The castle in fact opens directly on to a court containing stables, forge, bakery, barn, and peasant lodgings.  In case of attack, all were  within a safe circle of security.
