Our 8:30 am departure leads us south across the coast and inland to the southern marshes. Along the way we pass by a great castle of Richard the Lion-Heart and the first cathedral occupied by the legendary Cardinal Richelieu. We will hear more about these giants later, but today our destination is the village where Richard Lion-Heart's mother was born. Eleanor of Aquitaine, as many know, ruled over Richard when Richard came close to ruling the world -- European that is. |
