I will only note one of the many significant features of this church in today's pages.   In the years following the great religious wars of the sixteenth century, Louis XIII took the reigns of the kingdom from his assassinated father Henri IV at the tender age of nine.  As years passed, Louis XIII and his ally the Cardinal Richelieu strengthened the authority of the throne and moved the country toward interior peace.  Louis soon began to age, however, and still he had no male heir to succeed him.  If he died without one, the kingdom would surely sink back into fratricidal chaos.  He therefor built the altar you see here and devoted his kingdom to the Virgin Mary, with a heartfelt prayer for an heir.  Soon the miracle occurred and a son was born, this one also named Louis -- Louis XIV or as some call him, the Sun King.
