Like Saint-Denis that we visited yesterday, Notre Dame is a marvel of early Gothic art. And like Saint-Denis, it is closely associated with the destiny of the French monarchy. While most of the kings were buried in Saint-Denis and crowned in the cathedral of Reims, they were often baptized and married in this church. It was here also the Napoleon was crowned Emperor of the French. |
