The Institute for the History of Technology & Industrial Archaeology IA Resources in West Virginia |
|---|
During certain periods over the last 200 years West Virginia has been a national leader in coal, coke, salt, petroleum, iron, steel, lumber, and glass production. It was also a crossroads for major transportation routes (roads, river improvements, canals, and railroads) that played an important role in the early economic development of the United States. As a result, West Virginia is fertile ground for industrial archaeology. The following lists identify some of the Mountain State's most important IA sites. You can visit many of them.
