This award was created in 1990 as a memorial to WVU graduate Ethel Roberts who taught history in Pittsburgh public schools for over 40 years. This award is given to a graduating woman history education major with a GPA of 3.0 of better who plans to continue her education and teach in the future. The award amount is $500. Awarded in the Spring for past achievement. Funded by Mary Heironimus each year.

Awarded to an outstanding undergraduate junior or senior. The scholarship was established by Helen Coast Hayes of Portland, Ohio. In 1997-98 the award was $1,200 for the academic year. Awarded in the summer by the Dean's Office of the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, on recommendation of the Department, for the following academic year. Established in 1989.

| The Joseph Cody and Teresa Cody History Scholarship | back to top |
This scholarship was established in 2000 by Russell Cody of Clarksburg,
a retired entrepreneur, in memory of his parents. Joseph Cody was a coal miner and his wife
Teresa was a homemaker. They were the parents of seven children. The Cody Scholarship is used
in support of the WVU Scholars Program and is awarded annually to an undergraduate history major
who demonstrates strong academic potential and has financial need.

This award was established in 2001 as a memorial to WVU graduate Ethel Roberts who taught history in Pittsburgh public schools for over 40 years. This is a competitive award that is given to a junior history major with a GPA of 3.0 of better, along with a record of service to either the Department of History, the Eberly College of Arts & Sciences, West Virginia University, or the community, currently or at some point during the previous three undergraduate years. The award provides for the purchasing of textbooks and other educational supplies in the WVU Bookstore. This award is funded through the Mary Heironimus Endowed Scholarship Fund.
