The Council for Women’s Concerns (CWC) supports nursing women
at WVU and is pleased to provide the Lactation
Network resource. Please find on this page a network of people that
a nursing mom may be able to request the use of their private space
to pump. If you are a nursing mom who needs a space to nurse, please
contact individuals on the list directly. If you would like to join
the Lactation Network or would like more information, please contact
Leslie Tower. It is our goal to have several people per building who
may be willing to be part of the lactaion network.
Breastfeeding
has important health benefits for both mother and child. Women who nurse
are less likely to contract breast and ovarian cancer. It is the American
Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) position that "breastfeeding ensures
the best possible health as well as developmental and psychosocial outcomes."
For example, breastfed children are less likely to get sick, allergies,
diabetes, many childhood cancers, and SIDS. It is not surprising that
women who continue to breastfeed after returning to work, compared with
women who do not breastfeed, miss less time because of baby-related
illnesses and have shorter absences when they do miss work. Working
mothers who continue nursing also have higher morale. Breastfeeding
is frequently best for moms, children, and organizations.
Please
look for the breastfeeding symbol on nursing-friendly spaces around
campus! Please refer to the GroupWise System Address Book or directory.wvu.edu
for phone numbers or email addresses
