The Scott's Run Museum Showcase

Water Basins

Water Basins were used in homes through out the Scott's Run area for many different reasons. Because there was no running water at the time, people would fill buckets with water and dump them into the basins. Many times there would be a ladle next to the basin so that people could drink fresh water without leaving their homes.

Large water basins could also be used to wash clothing, like the one on display at Scott's Run. Women would do the laundry and then hang the clothing outside to dry.
