Sweet" candy thermometers were common
in kitchens during the nineteenth century.
The thermometer is 11" long, with a
wooden handle. Candy thermometers were
used for several different types of
candy making. The heat required for
each type of candy was marked by engravings
on the sides of the glass tubing.
