The hard had pictured below is from the
1970's. The color of mining hats holds significance.
Experienced miners usually wore black hats,
while the boss of the mine usually wore
a white hat. Green hats, such as this, were
usually worn by miners in the safety department.
The hat displays various decals, including
one from the U.S. Department of the Interior
Bureau of Mines.
It was contributed to the museum by West
Virginia Jewelry and Loan.
