Canary Cages

Canary cages like this were used by miners to test for the presence of poisonous methane gas. The canaries were typically stored in small, ceramic cages. There was a small bowl for water on one side, and a place for food on the other side. Canaries love to sing, and the miners knew they had to evacuate the mines if the canary stopped singing.
