Graduate Student Handbook

The current requirements for a M.S. and Ph.D. in Biology are contained in the department's Graduate Student Handbook which was most recently revised in May of 2007.

Students entering the program after May of 2007 should follow the information contained in the May 2007 revision which can be downloaded as either an MSWord or Adobe PDF file.

Students who entered the program prior to  May 2007 should follow the information contained in the December 2002 revision which can be downloaded as either an MS Word or Adobe PDF file.

Policy for the awarding of HERF & Supplemental caps

Often the department is able to add HERF and Supplemental caps to the stipends of some of our TAs.  The HERF awards are one-year salary supplements of $2,000 and these are available to either M.S. or Ph. D. students.  The Supplemental caps are three-year awards of $2,000 per year and available to only Ph.D. students.  Since only a limited number of these salary caps can  be awarded, the graduate committee determines who the recipients will be using the priorities set forth in our policy statement that can be viewed as a MSWord file.

Annual Graduate Student Progress Reports

To effectively track the progress of our graduate students, all graduate students are required to submit an annual progress report.  These are due August 15 and are used by the graduate committee in awarding salary supplements.
