I teach three advanced biology courses, Biology 312 Introduction to Virology, Biology 313 Molecular Basis of Cell Growth and Biology 410 Cell and Molecular Biology Methods. Besides the course content being presented in class and in the textbook, students are engaged in these subjects through case studies, readings, discussion, videos and term projects. We explore topics outside of the science itself, for example, the political, social and economic implications of using genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Biology 312 Introduction to Virology: This course has become more relevant in today’s society given the emergence of SARS and West Nile virus, and the continuing challenges of HIV and influenza. Biology 313 Molecular Basis of Cell Growth: We examine aspects of normal and abnormal cell growth to understand how cancer is treated and how we may apply this knowledge in regenerative medicine. Biology 410 Cell and Molecular Biology Methods: This course could also be described as biotechnology and its applications. We survey various technologies to explore their capabilities and limitations.
