West Virginia Demographics, Genetics, Disability, Human Mortality, Environment, Science Education
My research investigates relationships between human health and environmental variables throughout West Virginia. This area of inquiry can result in the detection of areas of concern in human health. Such information can lead to the further investigation of factors, or conditions, that are associated with the increased incidence of certain types of human morbidity, mortality, or the incidence of genetic traits.
In addition to human health research, I work on strategies for teaching science and mathematics to students with disabilities. There is a lack of easily available information and strategies to assist students with disabilities in science teaching and learning. Currently, we have a web sites for science and special education teachers to assist them in preparing for and mitigating of the functional limitations of science students with disabilities:
Inclusion in Science Education for Students with Disabilities (http://www.as.wvu.edu/~scidis/) and Inclusion in Mathematics Education for Students with Disabilities (http://www.as.wvu.edu/~acad/).
