Population Genetics: Ecological Genetics and Population Biology of Weedy Plants

My lab focuses on the evolutionary biology of plants. In particular I am interested in the evolutionary implications of phenotypic plasticity, the maintenance of genetic variation and the fitness implications of variation in physiological characters. Experimental organisms include weeds in agricultural systems and plants in natural and man-made freshwater wetlands. Work also includes the applied aspects of these systems including the evolution of herbicide resistance and the use of wetlands in remediation. Recent research includes studies of the role of herbivory in the maintenance of leaf-shape polymorphisms, genetic variability in response to different nutrient availabilities and genetic variation in root morphology and physiology in wetland plants.
