I enjoy teaching immensely, and have taught students at various levels, including college, community college, high school, and junior high. I am particularly interested in teaching methods that encourage active learning and participation in the large classroom. Also a challenge is upgrading the General Biology laboratories (Biology 103 and 104). In my capacity as General Biology Program Coordinator, I am developing new laboratory exercises and improving the undergraduate laboratory experience.
Prior to embarking on my teaching career, I worked in the area of protein structure determination using nuclear magnetic resonance. I determined the 3-dimensional structure for brazzein, a 6 kiloDalton protein that tastes 2,000 times sweeter than sugar on a weight-for-weight basis. I bring the excitement of this research experience to our developing undergraduate Biology laboratories.
