Consider the possibilities of a degree in the liberal arts and sciences. A degree from the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences will equip you to do nearly anything you can dream. Our graduates are celebrated authors and poets, geologists and rocket scientists, titans of the board room and the courtroom, doctors and pastors, moms and dads, leaders of their communities.
The primary mission of the Eberly College is to promote the full development of the student as an individual and as a member of society. Arts and sciences programs will prepare you for many specific careers as well as readying you for life-long learning that will extend well beyond your first job, for positions and programs not yet created in an ever-evolving job market in a rapidly-changing world.
The largest and most diverse of WVU’s colleges and schools, the Eberly College is the heart of West Virginia University. We play a role in the education of every WVU undergraduate student, providing the curriculum, courses, and faculty expertise required for a liberal education: literature and the humanities, mathematics and natural sciences, social and behavioral sciences. Eberly College faculty members engage in scientific discovery and creative expression. They teach, conduct research, and perform service to our state, nation, and world. Undergraduate and graduate students have opportunities to join those faculty projects and develop their own. You may extend your knowledge, skills, and fulfillment through programs in the Center for Literary Computing, the West Virginia Geographical Information Systems Technical Center, the Center for Writing Excellence, the Institute for Mathematics Learning, the Core Arboretum, the Institute for Public Affairs – or in many other settings outside the traditional classroom.
As a student in the Eberly College, you will learn to communicate effectively, refine your abilities to analyze complex problems, and grow the confidence to develop solutions and make critical judgments. You will gain the preparation you need for the roles you will play in society.
This website provides an overview of the undergraduate experience in the Eberly College.
