About SESD

Science Education for Students with Disabilities
exists to promote and advance the teaching of science and the development of curricula and instructional materials for students at all levels, with any manners of disability in the learning process.

The Goals of SESD are:

1. To disseminate information concerning the development of science materials and strategies for accomodations for students with special needs;
2. To promote science as a variable career option for students with disabilities;
3. To develop publications that deal with science for students with disabilities;
4. To stimulate research related to the general area of science education for students with disabilities;
5. To collaborate with other organizations with similar purposes;
6. To utilize and work with technologies and strategies that impact both teachers and students with disabilities in the science learning environment.

The SESD Newsletter

is published three times a year and keeps our members and others abreast of what is currently happening on the national as well as international level in science for students with disabilities.

The newsletter contains items such as:
Officers with Addresses;
Resources: Web Sites;
Electronic Bulletin Board;
Teacher & Student Successes;
Reports of Annual Meeting;
Short Articles;
Special NSTA projects & awards;
Forms for membership (new and renewal);
News concerning membership;
President's Column;
Calendar of Events;
Sessions at NSTA meetings that promote science for students with disabilities;
Fund-Raising activities.

The Journal of Science for Persons with Disabilities

The JSPD is published annually by SESD and is dedicated to addressing science issues for persons with disabilities, especially those in educational settings.

Unsolicited manuscripts are welcomed. You are encouraged to share views of the status of science for persons with disabilities, effective teaching practices, curricula and exemplary work samples that are student produced. Use APA style, double-space with wide margins, and submit three copies of the manuscript (if printed). If accepted, contributors will be asked to send manuscripts on disk, using either Microsoft Word (Macintosh) (preferred) or WordPerfect 5.1 (IBM). The cover page should include:
Title
Author
Author's position
Author's address
Date
A running head (abbreviated title that appears on each page with page number)
A one-paragraph abstract.

BOOK REVIEWS ARE ALSO WELCOMED. CONTRIBUTORS WHOSE MANUSCRIPTS ARE CHOSEN FOR PUBLICATION WILL RECEIVE A COMPLIMENTARY COPY OF THE ISSUE IN WHICH IT APPEARS.

The bibliography is listed in ERIC (ED 374 998 - Oct. '94).

The bibliography is continuously updated, and is available to anyone interested for a minimum charge.
